The American Red Cross recently certified 29 new baby sitters in the Ultimate Babysitter's Training course.
Two courses were offered during the Thanksgiving week school break for boys and girls to learn the basics of baby-sitting as well as receive certification in first aid and CPR. Sixteen of the new baby sitters were trained in Prairieville through a partnership with St. Elizabeth Hospital.
In the two-day course, students learned how to supervise children; choose safe and appropriate toys; handle bedtime issues effectively; keep children safe in the house or outside; perform first aid, including responding effectively to life-threatening emergencies; feed infants and prepare simple meals and snacks for children; and perform basic care routines, such as diapering, feeding and dressing infants and children, according to a news release from the American Red Cross.
Each student received CPR and first aid certifications, basic care skills, as well as a book sack with first aid supplies and the Babysitter's Handbook - an illustrated guide containing information sources for use in the course.
